For this assignment, you will select a topic different from the pro topic you worked on in Weeks 1-2. Conduct research on the topic and locate articles that takes a clear con position.

Next, develop a con-position proposal for this new topic. The goal of the proposal is to create a working thesis statement and basic research plan that considers context, audience, purpose, and presents potential sources. A proposal is not an outline, as it does not structure the paper. Rather, a proposal offers direction for research needs and gives your professor an opportunity to provide feedback before the drafting process.

Access the Con-Position Proposal Template and complete the six required sections:

SUBJECT:Cons of Legalizing Medicinal Marijuana
RESEARCH QUESTION:What are the disadvantages of legalizing medical marijuana?
CLAIM:The use of marijuana has been seen to help in medical processes and is expected to help in the different health conditions but some disadvantages are seen with the use of marijuana one of which is that the patient’s risks issues of addiction and abuse, it results in the loss of short term memory, and it has cancer-causing compounds.
RESEARCH PROPOSAL:There has been myriad support of the need for use of marijuana as medicine and this pushes for the need for legalization for it to be used by healthcare providers. This has pros and cons. One of the cons seen as a result of the use of marijuana as medicine and its legalization is that it would increase the risk of abuse and addiction by the patients and hence the patient may end up being addicted to the use of the drug. The other negative impact of the legalization is that it could increase the use of the medication and hence lead to the loss of short term member of the patient. The use of marijuana could be the causative factor for the patient losing their memory and having a lack of an understanding of what happened in the recent past. The use of marijuana could affect the way that nerves are working and hence learning in loss of memories of the patient. Furthermore, the legalization is argued against by many since it could result in the patient getting cancer. As such, the drug has a cancer-causing compound and that could risk the health of the patient. As a result, there are extensive assertions against the use of marijuana as medicine and hence this has been seen to push against the legalization of the use of marijuana in the US as a medication.
